This for your reading pleasure is our very first Cowboy Newsletter, written by Flint aka Buck back in about 1992. Flint, thanks for the inspirational start! On Saturday, January 25, at 10:00 A.M. sharp, the "real" cowboy shooters arrived at the County Range for the January shoot. In a heavy snow driven by a howling wind that drove the temperature down to at least zero, and turned the snow flakes to icy daggers piercing tender flesh, our hardy shooters trudged up to the line to fight the bad guys. With fingers so stiff and cold they could barely hold their weapons, with icicles on mustache and eye brows, with feet so cold they felt like logs, with targets almost invisible because of the driving snow, our heroes did their duty as generations of cowboys, marshals and responsible citizens did before them. Sometimes alone, as their faint hearted friends stayed home in front of fire and snuggled close to their significant companion. So it was, so it is.
Along about noon one of our heroes said, "Why are we here?" "Because it is our duty!" One answered. "Because John Wayne would have been here!" Suggested another. "That's right", we all answered in a chorus. We all thought about that for a moment. Finally someone asked "anyone here remember seeing John Wayne in a movie with snow?" We were stumped, no one could. As one voice we said "Lets get the hell out of here!" And so it was!
The results of the 1st and only stage was: Bad Ace Burge - first place Murdering Maude - second place Flint - disqualified (could not hold his gun) Wiz - disqualified (excessive bitchin)
I would like to encourage all of you out there who have not joined the club yet to do so. We would like to improve our stage props and improve our organization. To do this we need all the help we can get. As you well know.
